COINCIDENCE?

Thirty years ago a small group of feminists planned a Strike for Equality on the 50th anniversary of suffrage on august 26, 1970. Soon thousands were working around the country and around the clock on making August the 26th a memorable day. That great event was the theme of our annual reunion in New York this year.

Preparing for the celebration I reread press releases, newspaper and magazine articles from that time, contacted everyone I remembered as having taken a big part to get their memories and, with Joan Michel wrote the story for our program notes --

Three days before leaving for New York my computor, fax and telephone went on the blink, and I thought I couldn't possibly finish everything in time to make my flight to La Guardia. But somehow, with the help of a friend, I made it to the airport in time for the commmutor flight to Houston where I was whisked by cart to the Continental gate. As I raced toward the door, ticket in hand, the gate notice screamed out at me...

Houston to LaGuardia.

Flight Number 1970

Was that a coincidence?
