Lifetime NOW member Jan Heineman Allen passed away on September 13, 2019. She joined NOW over 40 years ago to work for the Equal Rights Amendment, and went on to join the North Carolina NOW board and the NOW Political Action Committee. Jan co-founded Lillian’s List in 1997 to support pro-choice progressive women who wanted to run for office. She was also on the NC Planned Parenthood board.
Jan received many awards for her work on reproductive rights over the years. September 3, 2015 was declared “Jan Allen Day” by the Town of Chapel Hill.
